AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

A few years back, three questions came from different people in the span of a month.

Question 1: Had you been a German Christian during World War II, would you have taken a stand against Hitler?

Question 2: Had you lived in the South during the civil rights conflict, would you have taken a stand against racism?

Question 3: When your grandchildren discover you lived during a day in which 1.75 billion people were poor and 1 billion were hungry, how will they judge your response?

I didn’t mind the first two questions. Those choices were not mine. But the third question has kept me awake at night. We are given an opportunity to make a big difference during a difficult time. We are created by a God to do great works. He invites us to outlive our lives, not just in heaven but here on earth.  Max Lucado

OUCH THIS ONE WILL LEAVE A MARK!

Ok, I have been a “Ramsey GUY” for over ten years: Taught Financial Peace, at least once a year since I took the class 10 years ago. We have even taught Generation Change to our HS youth group. I have pitched The Foundations Classes to our HS and Local Tech School. ( Zero Traction on both counts ). I love his curriculum. I have seen it change families and their family tree. It did for us.

But, it does not resonate with the those families living at the poverty level. It uses words that just don’t even make sense to that demographic.

But, I have found a curriculum developed by a lady that I have a ton of respect for. She has taken Financial Peace, read Total Money Make Over and she has worked with the very poor in her area and around all of New Mexico. Sara Money, is her name. She has created: Money and Me.

It is a game changer in my opinion. I will start teaching this curriculum to some of the kids that are aging out of the foster system in the coming weeks.

So how do we minister to the poor in our communities? Let’s give them to tools to manage what they get, to dig their way out. Encourage them that they truly can change their family tree. Not with information about 401 k’s and rate of return and Debt Snowballs and Zero Based Budgets. Learn their money language and meet them where they are at. Check out Money and ME program, it comes in English and Spanish.
