In this time of confusion and lack of normalcy, I have found it critical to find a new normal. I know we are all dealing with the restrictions and uncertainty related to Covid 19, but my new normal started back in January. Let me explain. My mom have been my primary respite care provider for my Down syndrome daughter, Emily. Emily is an amazing girl who loves to give hugs, makes people smile, and has a streak of stubbornness that is at times very difficult. She needs a lot of support as she is developmentally around the age of 4-5. Unfortunately, my mom was in an extremely serious auto accident and sustained a head injury where she was unconscious for over an hour and not expected to live. She was moved from ICU trauma, to trauma, to skilled nursing and in March was moved to assisted living which is where she resides today. I was named her Power of Attorney (POA) since she was also caring for her 80 year husband. I went from having support with my daughter to suddenly caring for three people. I had to move both of them into assisted living (when Covid restrictions started), pay their bills, deal with medical appointments, start home schooling my daughter, and begin working virtually from home. Needless to say, Money & ME screeched to a halt with organizations unable to have classes. Now, eight month later I am finding a new routine, my mom is slowly improving (I have only been able to see her a few times), and some organizations are finding ways to implement Money & ME during this difficult time. I want everyone to know that the Money & ME program is still in place and we are ready to support you as you help others. Some organizations are doing Money & ME virtually, and others are holding small classes or doing one-on-one. I know that money management has become even more critical during this time of uncertainty, and anything that we can do to help support you helping others is still the Money & ME Mission. I encourage you to join me this Thursday for our conference call to learn what others are doing and support each other during this unprecedented time. (See info below).
