Dollars 4 You: Teen Edition!

In 2015, trainers started asking me, Sara Money,  “Will Money & ME work for teens?”  My answer, “I’m not sure, but let’s see.”  I wrote the adult versions at an eighth grade level, and was curious to see how teens would respond to the information.  I recruited trainers at various churches to try the curriculum with their youth groups.  I then observed the sessions and interacted with the teens during the program to hear their responses.  It was actually a lot of fun.

The basis of the curriculum worked, but needed some adjustments to be more applicable to the teens.  For example, the Income & Spending worksheet is for people who pay for housing, transportation, and food.  This was adapted to an Income & Spending worksheet for teens that relates to their spending such as hobbies, eating out, and entertainment.  The curriculum addresses gift cards and writing thank you notes.  A worksheet was added to the Teen Edition “How Much Do My Parents Spend On Me?” and information about scholarships, grants, and student loans.  Each time I rewrote the curriculum, I would “test” it with teens and interview them after to hear their responses.  A few other changes include the section on “Bad Habits.”  In the adult version bad habits include “drinking, smoking, and gambling.”  The Teen Edition includes, “gaming, watching too much TV, shopping and spending too much money.”   I am pleased to say that this “Dollars 4 You” Teen Edition is almost complete and will be available after June 1, 2019.  The Christian Edition and the secular version (WOW-Words of Wisdom) with both be available.
