For one participant at Marion Matters in Marion, Ohio, Money & ME came at an important time of transition. In a household of two, she was rebuilding financial stability after incarceration and had recently completed probation. After starting as a temporary employee, she secured employment at a factory. She was also working to pay court-related fees so she could restore her driver’s license.
Alongside those steps forward, she faced new financial challenges. The loss of SNAP benefits required adjustments to her monthly budget, and she was managing approximately $7,000 in debt.
Through Money & ME, taught by Avery Detrick, Community Resource Navigator at Marion Matters, she built on her basic understanding of budgeting and put that knowledge into action.
The program helped her rework her budget to reflect her current circumstances and develop a strategy for repaying her debt. She left with a clearer picture of where her money was going, which expenses needed priority, and how to move toward her goals.
Her experience shows how financial education can support everyday decisions. When circumstances change, a workable budget and a clear plan can help people take their next steps with greater confidence.
We appreciate Avery and the team at Marion Matters for bringing Money & ME to participants working toward greater financial stability. Their work helps connect financial knowledge with practical action.
