On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, I got the opportunity to provide a “Money & ME Train the Trainer” to educate the staff with Casakids, a nonprofit in Roswell, New Mexico! The Roswell Casakids began its humble roots in 1989 and now has over 28 programs within its organization, with their services ranging from advocacy for foster youth, in-home services, youth programs and much more. CASA ® stands for “Court Appointed Special Advocates”. The original CASA program was started by Superior Court Judge David Soukrup when he saw children in family legal disputes not being adequately represented. He put out a call to volunteers and that was the beginning! Now the CASA network has more than 59,000 volunteers serving nationwide. Volunteers and case managers gather information to assist the families that are referred to them. Many of these families struggle financially, and they need help with money management. The staff that attended this Money & ME training were excited to learn the information so they can teach those they work with (youth, young adults, parents, caregivers) life skills and money management which is in the Money & ME curriculum.
Last summer Valerie Lopez, the Chief Programs Officer, and staff attended a Money & ME Train the Trainer in Las Cruces, New Mexico. They were super excited to learn about the curriculum and share it with all staff. Her vision is for case managers to use the Money & Me program with the all those they serve and support. This will help clients take control of their money and their lives. Valerie was instrumental in coordinating this training for the Casakids staff. NOTE: Casakids utilizes fully trained facility dogs in their daily work. “Cammie” is one of their working dogs, and she joined us for the training.
